world vegan monthIt’s almost November and time to look at all the food holidays that vegans can celebrate. Up first, it’s World Vegan Month! This is the time to learn all you can about eating vegan, why factory farming is inhumane, and what we can do to build urban gardens and make city food deserts places where food plants flourish and feed families.
The sole weekly observance this month celebrates figs. This makes me very happy, because I do love figs.
The daily food observances include everything from pecans to peppers to pomegranate. And the daily celebrations have fun foods like nachos, sundaes, and pizza with everything (do you put kale on pizza?).
Chef Johnna with chiliMy favorite is National Pepper Month, because I love peppers and they go in almost everything I cook. Then there’s National Sandwich Day. I’ve got a few sandwiches I make that are my favorites: BBQ tofu, vegan deli slices with lettuce, tomato, onion, and cucumber — and don’t forget the grilled cheese sandwich, ultimate comfort food for me. Surprisingly we have National Vichyssoise Day — cold potato soup. It’s delicious and amazing, especially with little bits of tofu bacon crumbled on top.
Whatever food holiday you choose to celebrate, share your creations with us on Instagram and Twitter, just mention @kitchenshaman.
